Sandlot Umpires Duties
- -Be available
for necessary meetings.
- -Be
on time for your games – 20 minutes before game time. Call Commissioner if you can’t make
it.
- -Be
knowledgeable of the rules of the age group you are umpiring, & have
a copy of the rules on you.
- -Make
sure the teams are on time for infield, (20 minutes before scheduled
game time), first pitch, etc.
- -Make
sure score books/lineups are in order.
- -Record
time of first pitch. Start time for the 1st game of a
weeknight doubleheader is the time listed on the schedule, regardless of
the actual start time.
- -Verify
score with both bookkeepers every half inning.
- -Keep
control of the game; coaches, players, & parents conduct.
- -Make
sure shirts are tucked in, no one is climbing on fences, etc.
- -Be
fair & decisive on your calls.
Loudly call out the pitch count, outs, etc. often during the
game. The home plate umpire is in
charge. Any questions about rule
interpretations need to be discussed & decided on quickly. In
extreme situations the Division Commissioner or Ass’t. may be called
upon to settle a dispute.
- -Make
rain delay decisions once game has started. Meet at concession stand for rainout
decisions.
- -Make
game time–limit decisions.
- -Responsible
for game balls & equipment to be turned over to your replacement or
to the storage area at the end of the day.
- MUST
SIGN & TURN IN GAME SUMMARY SHEETS AFTER EACH GAME IN ORDER TO GET
PAID.
